After the 2-0 defeat by Fluminense, this Sunday by Rio Cup, Abel Braga informed that he is no longer Vasco da Gama's coach.
In a statement released to the press, Abel said that he met with the top of the club and made the decision to stop the work.
“As I said at my last press conference, after the game against Goiás, I really like Vasco, the president, the players, the fans and the work environment. Even with the financial crisis, dedication and commitment were never lacking. But things are not going the way we imagine. So, at a time when the championships are stopped due to force majeure, I leave for the club to find a professional who has time to work and try the necessary adjustments. My thanks go out to everyone ”, he declared.
Abel ran Vasco for three months. In 14 matches, he won four, drew five and lost five, scoring just eight goals. The criticism of the fans, the results and poor performances contributed to the departure of the coach.
Under his command, Vasco was eliminated in the first phase of the Guanabara Cup, only qualified for the third phase of the Copa do Brasil and for the second phase of the South American Cup. The qualification for the Rio Cup semifinals is considered unlikely.
