The South American Football Confederation (CONMEBOL) announced, on Thursday, the advance of economic resources for the clubs participating in the Copa Libertadores and the Copa Sudamericana. Each association may request up to 60% of the participation premium.

The initiative of the entity that runs South American football aims to allow clubs to plan their financial needs because of the coronavirus pandemic and its impact on health and sport around the world.

“Situations like this demand quick and exceptional responses, with the objective both of preserving the health of the big family of South American football and to reduce, as far as possible, the economic impact of the interruption of competitions”, said Alejandro Domínguez, president of CONMEBOL, in a letter addressed to the presidents of the Member Associations.

Clubs wishing to use this prerogative must submit their application through each Member Association, which in turn will apply directly to CONMEBOL.

Brazil has seven teams in the group stage (Palmeiras, Santos, São Paulo, Flamengo, Internacional, Grêmio and Athletico-PR) in the group stage, which pays US $ 3 million (R $ 15 million) for each team. In this way, each club can request up to US $ 1.8 million (about R $ 9 million).
