The Ministry of Mines and Energy (MME) decided to postpone the electric and transmission auctions scheduled for this year, due to the contagion of contagion by the new coronavirus (Covid-19), classified as a pandemic by the World Health Organization (WHO).

‚ÄúSensitive to the context that has demanded the adoption of extraordinary measures by society, economic agents and even the Government, which decreed the state of public calamity, the Ministry of Mines and Energy postpones the holding of auctions promoted by this Portfolio, destined to meet the future energy needs of the distributors, in the National Interconnected System and in the Isolated Systems, as well as the expansion needs of the transmission systems ‚ÄĚ, highlighted the folder, according to the ordinance published this Monday (3/30) in the Di√°rio Union Official (DOU).

“It should be noted that it is not a question of canceling the 2020 auctions in the electricity sector, but of a postponement, given the confidence that we have in the resumption of economic activity, once the public health situation is normalized,” said the MME.

‚ÄúIn this sense, reiterating the portfolio's commitment to maintaining an open and transparent dialogue, as soon as this challenging moment for all is overcome, MME intends to reassess the economic and sectoral perspectives with the generation, transmission and distribution agents for the horizon of contracting of said auctions and the convenience of holding these events in 2020, a matter that will then be taken to the weighted assessment of the National Energy Policy Council (CNPE) ‚ÄĚ, he added.

The postponement is indefinite. Upon the resumption of the competitions, new deadlines for the stages will be defined.
