Ceyhan Gündüz, President of Ankara Vegetable and Fruit Brokers Association (ASEMKOM), made an assessment regarding the latest situation in the vegetable and fruit sector, in which the eyes were focused with the Kovid-19 outbreak.
Expressing that there was an explosion of demand especially in the sales of vegetables and fruits last week, Gündüz said, “Following the Kovid-19 outbreak, we have taken the necessary precautions and the trade continues. There is no problem in the fruit and vegetable sector.” he spoke.
Emphasizing that they prevented the product to be given to the market at a high price in this process, Gündüz said:
“Currently, because the export of fruits and vegetables has decreased, the prices have decreased a little in the country. Do not mean that the decrease in prices will decrease constantly. There is no problem in product sales at the moment. There are still all products. There are as many products as you want in a wholesaler.”
Set to stocking, disinfection against virus
Gündüz pointed out that there is a decrease in the sales of vegetables and fruits due to the decrease in the number of markets, and this is due to the closure of cafes and restaurants.
Expressing that the tradesmen do not allow product storage and stocking in this process, Gündüz explained that the tradesmen put quotas on their product purchases.
Gündüz pointed out that the wholesale market is disinfected every day and said:
“After closing the wholesale market, we disinfect all the shops one by one every day. In order to protect the social distance, we removed the display of the benches and products. also was not found. ”
Reminding that there is time for planting vegetables, Gündüz said that the producers could not find a man to employ. Gündüz added that this problem should be solved in order to avoid problems in vegetable production in the summer period.
